Collaboration with national and county governments to address unpaid care and domestic work through policy practice and budget reforms
We work closely with national and county governments to address the heavy and unequal burden of unpaid care and domestic work through progressive policy reforms, practical interventions, and gender-responsive budgeting. Our influence in developing the National Policy on Unpaid Care and Domestic Work is a major step toward recognizing and valuing this work.
Scale-up of Childcare centres in Busia and Kajiado Counties
Investing in care work interventions can help alleviate poverty by increasing access to care services and providing affordable caregiver support, which frees young women’s time to engage in upskilling and economic opportunities. To demonstrate the support to young women entrepreneurs bearing childcare responsibilities we are working in partnership with county governments of Busia, Kajiado and Nairobi to upscale affordable, accessible and quality child care centers for market traders. We have set up child care centers in Kajiado at Ngongo Market, Busia and in Nairobi County at City Park with the aim of upscaling this to other counties.
Conduct behavior change community engagements
We facilitate community dialogues and behavior change campaigns that challenge harmful gender norms and promote positive social attitudes toward gender equality. These engagements create awareness on GBV prevention, equitable care roles, and empower communities to take action against GBV.
Male engagement forums
Recognizing the critical role men play in addressing GBV and gender inequality, we conduct male engagement forums that encourage men and boys to become allies in promoting gender justice. These forums focus on fostering accountability, transforming harmful masculinities, and advocating for shared domestic and caregiving responsibilities.
Capacity strengthening for GBV service providers
We build the technical and operational capacity of GBV service providers to ensure a survivor-centered approach in prevention and response. This includes training on case management, psychosocial support, legal aid, policy development, safeguarding, and referral systems to improve the quality and accessibility of services for survivors.
Strengthen policies and gender-responsive financing
We advocate for implementation of policies and the adoption of gender-responsive budgeting practices at both national and county levels. This ensures adequate allocation of resources for GBV prevention, response services, and initiatives that advance gender equality and women’s economic empowerment.
Enhance the capacity of National and county governments to implement laws and policies that prevent and respond to GBV.
Our work includes providing technical support, tools, and training to government institutions to effectively implement existing laws and policies on GBV prevention and response. This includes enhancing coordination among sectors, improving monitoring and accountability systems, and ensuring policies translate into real impact on the ground.
Capacity Strengthening of Community-based Grassroots.
We strengthen the capacity of women’s rights and community-based organizations by providing training, resources, and technical support to create safe and protective environments where adolescent girls and young women can access financial and skilling opportunities to fully participate in the economy. Our support focuses on strengthening governance structures, improving organizational policies, hiring critical technical staff, reinforcing safeguarding principles, and delivering specialized training. Additionally, we leverage these organizations to implement gender-transformative models as part of a broader community engagement strategy for GBV prevention and response—ensuring impact during the program and beyond
Case Management.
Our case management support addresses the immediate needs of GBV survivors to reduce vulnerability and prevent further harm. This includes assistance with medical care, legal aid, transportation to service providers and shelters, rent support, and other essential needs. These interventions create a safe and stable environment, enabling survivors to move away from perpetrators and prepare for financial independence through access to skilling and dignified employment opportunities.
Free Legal Aid and Psychosocial Support.
We provide direct support to GBV survivors through free legal aid and psychosocial counseling. These services serve as an entry point for identifying adolescent girls and young women who will benefit from our broader economic empowerment programs. By offering wrap-around services, we ensure survivors experience physical and emotional healing and stability before beginning their journey toward resilience. We work with contracted program lawyers, counselors, and pro bono advocates to deliver these critical services at no cost.
