GIRL ADVOCACY ALLIANCE PROJECT

This project seeks to enhance both National and Regional mechanisms towards the protection of women and girls through the prevention and response to GBV and economic exclusion.

Goals and Objective:
1) To strengthen institutional capacities of National and Regional state and non-state actors to effectively address GBV and economic exclusion during Covid-19
2) To ensure the facilitation of GBV coordination and referral framework by the State Department for Gender (SDfG) and the East African Community (EAC) Gender Department during the COVID-19 Pandemic.

OUTCOMES

1) Regional GBV Coordination mechanism established
2) Increased advocacy on prevention and response to GBV during COVID 19
3) Enhanced capacity of regional and sub-regional CSO networks to influence regional policymaking and monitoring on child rights, women’s rights and gender equality with particular focus on GBV and EE
4) Improved monitoring and accountability mechanisms and practices by regional and sub-regional bodies (EAC) on GBV and EE on women and girls.
5) Enhanced capacity of EACSOF Kenya to fundraise for funds to deliver on its mission
6) Increased visibility on EACSOF’s strategy, programs and initiatives

ACTIVITIES/OUTPUT

1) Supported the editing of the Final Maputo Protocol Scorecard manuscript
2) Supported SDfG in hosting a technical review meeting on the Maputo protocol scorecard and on the development of the Maputo Protocol National Status Report
3) Held an EACSOF working group meeting to validate the EACSOF Advocacy strategy
4) Supported the Centre for Domestic Training and Development, in mapping and established a network of shelters and safe houses
5) Developed the EACSOF resource mobilization/fundraising strategy and validated
6) Organized weekly CSOs and SDfGs consultative meetings on the prevention and response to GBV during COVID-19
7) Facilitated and participated in a talk show on GBV during Covid-19 and the Violence against children 2019 report
8) Held Virtual meetings with EAC on prevention and response to GBV during COVID-19
9) Established an EAC regional GBV sector working group
10) Developed a tool for Regional CSOs to fill in their GBV interventions during COVID-19
11) Conducted an Assessment on hard hit areas and GBV hotspots around the region and border areas
12) Facilitated the publishing of 2 articles, one on GBV rising in the EAC Region published on the East African newspaper and another titled “all hands on deck in ending Violence” published on the Star Newspaper.
13) Supported the revamping of the EAC Gender website and created a specific platform for GBV where all the project materials, state policies and laws, etc have been uploaded.
14) Participated in the GAA Africa Region outcome harvesting workshop
15) Participated in the 35th and 26th GIMAC themed Silencing the Guns
16) Participated in 2 reflection meetings on the CSO Report to the African Committee of Experts on the Rights and Welfare of the Child (ACERWC)
