Monitoring of Child Sexual Exploitation & Abuse/Harassment and Child Labor in the Construction of East Africa Road Corridor in Mombasa, Kwale, and Kilifi Counties

CCGD has partnered with Bank Information Centre (BIC) to monitor the design and implementation of the: East African Coastal Corridor Development Project concerning child labor, child SEA/H.
The East African Coastal Corridor Development Project, is financed by the African Development Bank (AfDB) and the governments of Kenya and Tanzania at 70% and 30% respectively. The project road is designed to provide an alternative trunk road between Dar es Salaam, Tanga, and Mombasa to facilitate transport and travel along with the road impact areas and beyond.
CCGD is currently conducting a study on the project's design and implementation and produce a report on key findings from monitoring work.
The objective of the program
- To carry out the research and analysis, CCGD will evaluate the incorporation or exclusion of child labor and child SEA/H prevention, mitigation and response measures in the design and implementation of the project as well as the inclusion and participation of children and youth and child-focused civil society organizations in consultations throughout the project cycle.

Outputs
- Conduct interviews with key stakeholders (African Development Bank, Ministry of Public Service, Gender, Senior Citizens Affairs & Specials Programs County Departments, Kenya National Highways Authority, Schools, children and youth, Child Rights Organization/coalition working in the area and community-based organizations).
- Engage in meetings with a variety of stakeholders including: African Development Bank staff involved in the project, Kenya National Highways Authority and other relevant government officials in the country.
- Direct advocacy to the African Development Bank Environmental and Social Safeguard specialists, Gender and civil society engagement and Task Team leaders team as well as those overseeing the project to check the Bank’s and Government of Kenya progress regarding the impact of large infrastructure projects on children with focus on child labor and child SEA/H.
