Kajiado survivors of violence caucus at the county Gender-Based Violence Recovery Centre (GBVRC)

The African Pro-Poor Tourism in partnership with Global Fund Management held a legal aid clinic for survivors of sexual and gender-based violence at the Kajiado County Referral Hospital GBVRC. The clinic focused on providing legal aid services to survivors of SGBV by identifying and supporting cases for possible mediation, arbitration, and ligation.

Speaking at the forum Dr. Richard Tempe called on the survivors to speak up against any form of discrimination and challenges they are facing in the quest for justice. He also urged stakeholders to make frequent follow up on survivor cases.

The survivors also benefited from a Legal Clinic conducted by pro bono lawyer, Ms. Ruth Ogano, from the Mosongo & Co Advocates. Ms. Ogano lauded the Kajiado Police for being efficient at the Police Gender Desk saying the police handle SGBV cases efficiently when such reports are made at the station.

The GBVRC was established by the County Government Kajiado with support from Collaborative Centre and Gender Development (CCGD) to provide clinical and psycho-social services to GBV survivors as well as boost the SGBV referral chain by supporting the collection and preservation of forensic evidence for the prosecution of cases.
